First GBM: Monday, 9/14, 5:30pm - 6:30pm, at MLC Room 253 

Exam Sign-Up Deadline: Tuesday, 9/15

Exam Writing/Materials Deadline: Friday, 10/2

Div C Invitational: Saturday, 10/24, 8am - 4pm, on UGA's South Campus

What is Science Olympiad?

Science Olympiad is a nation-wide organization dedicated to promoting STEM education, critical thinking, and core skills for both school and day-to-day life among K-12 students. For these students, Science Olympiad is a collection of rigorous and thought-provoking events that develop their passion for different scientific disciplines. For UGA students, our involvement looks a little different; we write exams, proctor events, track scores, and generally ensure the smooth-running of competition days. Our goal is to challenge students to think deeply and have fun at the same time, which we wouldn’t be able to do without our volunteers. Thank you for your interest and involvement! Get Involved

We are currently preparing to host our first competition of the year (Division C Invitational) in October! This means that we are currently recruiting volunteers for all events. At Science Olympiad, we split events in two general types:

• Exams: Exam events are exactly that: exams! They are split into three categories—biology, chemistry, and physics—but no previous experience with these topics is necessary to volunteer for these events. We’ll need volunteers to help write, proctor, and grade these events.

• Build: Build events are more hands-on than exams, typically involving the application of engineering and coding concepts. No experience with these topics are necessary to volunteer for these events. Build volunteers will mainly act as time keepers and rule enforcers during events and will follow the direction of the building event manager.

TL;DR: there are several kinds of events to choose to volunteer for, and experience isn’t required to be involved! You can request a Division B Rules Manual for a list of all events and their descriptions.  

Important Steps for Volunteers

If you’re interested in volunteering for any role for the Division C Invitational, please follow these steps:

1. Join the GroupMe and follow our Instagram (@uga_scioly) to stay up to date!

2. Attend the GBM on Monday, September 14th. We’ll discuss the invitational in more detail and answer any questions you may have.

3. Fill out this volunteer interest form.

4. If you are interested in writing exams, please fill out this form as well.
